Powers

Elsa has total control over the element of ice and snow. She was born with her powers and noone really knows from where they came - but she can do a lot thanks to them: from making a small snowflakes and snowmen to huge storms and even create ice clothes and built huge ice castles. Her powers are released by her hands, but it's her heart that creates them - when Elsa is sad or angry, she unleashes her power uncontrolably, when happy - she creates most beautiful things and her powers show in safer ways. Also, when she is happy and calm, she can fully control her magic, but if she is stressed or scared, she loses control and causes great harm to the people around her. When she mourned her parents' death, all the snow in her room was immobilized in the air, as if time had stopped. Her heart, controlling the forces of ice, reeased a sign of mourning and made everything set in freezed moment of ice, as cold as her feelings and emotions back then.

Already at the age of eight, she was able to enchant the entire ballroom in the winter world of games. Interestingly, when she grew up, when she was in emotion, not only her hands controlled the powers but also her whole being, like starting creating the ice castle - the ground immediately freezed, just after touching it with her foot.

The creation is the biggest gift that Elsa got with her ice powers. She can conjure not only buildings and gowns and probabbly many other wonderful and shining icy items - but also can create life which is almost godly skill. Thanks to her powers, she created Olaf, who helped her to recover from her unstability. You can say then, that she, by her powers and skill of creating, managed to move the events in a way which helped her eventually. It's a warming parallel, for me.

Elsa's magic is the most exposed during her freedom song, "Let It Go". Her power grows when she finally frees herself from fear and stress, allowing her to fully discover her previously hidden skills. As a result, she created a palace, a snow staircase, Olaf, as well as her ice dress, which probably is not as cold as ice gown could be in real world, untouched by magic.

At the beginning of the film Elsa is not afraid to use her powers, she boldly plays with her sister creating ice drifts. Everything changes ]after the accident. The king decided to protect Elsa from the world and tried to help her in restraining her power. He taught her that no one would know about it and that she would remember wearing gloves so that she would get used to it. He also instilled in her the belief that in order to gain full control over the powers, she must get rid of emotions. The biggest challenge for her was the coronation, during which she had to take the scepter and the golden apple. It was evident that at this moment Elsa is very nervous and glances stealthily in her hands.

After the whole adventure in the movie, Elsa understood that her parents weren't right, and she shouldn't have conceal her powers and being afraid of it. It was part of her, a real gift, not a curse all thought it was. It was gift which should be cherished and taught to use and expand, not hidden - hiding it caused Elsa's pain and if not wrong decision of her parents, nothing wrong would happen to Arendelle and Elsa would be happier and never would needed to live in fear and loneliness.

Elsa's powers manifest as certain snowflake, designed especially for her. I used that snowflake in design of the website ;) After all, it's one of the more important signs and symbols in Elsa's inner and outer life.
